Spring term 2014

Events this term
The Spring Term is well under way and several excited classes of children are preparing for examinations which will be held at the School in March.

For the Primary class this will be their first experience of an exam, so with the help of my pianist and assistants I am making sure this will be an enjoyable and rewarding occasion for them.

The children taking Primary and “Standard” exams will perform their class in groups of four in front of an examiner sent by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. These exams are informal and I will be taking the children in and teaching the class as usual.

Some of the children are taking a “Performance Award” which requires them to perform their steps in small groups without their teacher, and to dance a solo.

Cecchetti Choreographic Competition
Six pupils are busy choreographing dances and will be taking part in the annual Cecchetti Choreographic Competition held at Cecil Sharp House, Regents Park, also in March.
Pupils who participated last year were all delighted to be awarded Commendation Certificates.

Auditions and Productions.
Cecchetti Associates
Thelma Grindley was successful in auditioning for the Cecchetti Associate scheme this school year. Thelma attends three sessions per term at the Rambert School in Twickenham and has a ballet class followed by a character, modern or other style of dance class.

Cecchetti Summer School
Isobel Voysey attended the Cecchetti Summer School last August where apart from a daily ballet class she had classes in musical theatre and choreography.

Salvador Thylmann-Foster performed the role of a boy in the opera Gloriana at the Royal Opera House last July.

Goodnight Mr Tom
Isaac Insley and Bessy Walmsley appeared in a musical version of Goodnight Mr Tom at the Bridewell Theatre in the City just before Christmas. Isaac played the part of Zach, and Bessy the role of Carrie-both children put their dancing skills to good use! Isaac received some very positive reviews.

Arts Educational School
Viola Carrier successfully auditioned for the Arts Educational School and started in January.
