Belinda Payne

Principal: Belinda Payne A.I.S.T.D. (Diploma) Cecchetti Ballet”

Belinda Payne started training locally at the Trimby School of Dancing.

At the age of 14 Belinda won a Cecchetti Scholarship and was awarded the Pat Hardy Progress Cup which led to her being accepted at the Royal Ballet Upper School for one year.

She continued her training at the Urdang Academy and then with Travis Kemp and Molly Lake (who had studied with Cecchetti and danced in Anna Pavlova’s Ballet Company).

Whilst still training, Belinda danced principal roles in various productions with the Chingford Ballet Club as well as at a Festival on the island of Capri.

In the Spring of 1984, Belinda auditioned for a dancing part in the film “Legend” which starred Tom Cruise. Belinda was a fairy in the film and spent 5 weeks at Pinewood Studios working with Arlene Philips, choreographer, and more recently a judge on “Strictly Come Dancing.”

Following this Belinda worked as a film extra for a while.

In September 1984 Belinda started teaching with Antonia Dugdale at what is now the Islington Ballet School and in 2002 took over as Principal.

Belinda is a member of the Cecchetti Group and is one of the main organisers of the Cecchetti Choreographic Competition held annually at Cecil Sharp House, Regents Park.

When not dancing Belinda enjoys singing in her local church choir, and has participated in Festivals at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
